About

Welcome to RAKU

For over 450 years, the Way of Tea (sadō) has been cherished across generations.

Nara has historical significance
in Japanese tea culture.
It is where Murata Juko, regarded as the founder of wabi-cha, lived and developed the concept of simplicity in tea practice.

In the northwestern reaches of Nara lies Takayama, a region distinguished for its craft of chasen—the handmade bamboo whisks indispensable to the Japanese tea ceremony.
Today, Takayama produces the vast majority of the nation’s chasen, sustaining traditions
forged centuries ago.

At Raku, located in this historically rich region, we share the charm and depth of tea culture through authentic tea ceremony experiences and tea-style wedding ceremonies (chakonshiki).

We invite you to Raku to create a delightful and memorable moment in a space
where you can truly feel the beauty of Japanese culture.

Tea Ceremony Experience

The Japanese tea ceremony is an art form that involves more than the mere making and drinking of matcha.

It is considered a synthesized art form that weaves together elements of calligraphy, ceramics,
architecture, and etiquette.

We invite you to enjoy this experience with all five senses, under the guidance of an
experienced tea instructor.

※Optional experiences, such as wearing a kimono, having a professional photoshoot, or enjoying the tea garden, are also available.
Please inquire for more details.

The Chakonshiki
Tea-Style Wedding Ceremony

Chakonshiki is a modern Japanese-style wedding ceremony incorporating elements of the tea ceremony.

In the presence of loved ones, the bride and groom exchange a bowl of matcha as a symbol of their vows and the beginning of their life together.

We will help you create a personalized ceremony that suits your wishes. Please feel free to contact us
for a consultation.
